APBT and service dogs in ohio?

Question by Country gurl <3: APBT and service dogs in ohio?
I have epilepsy, anxiety disorder, and bipolar disorder.
I own a 3year old female APBT. She is very intelligent, and defiantly comforts me when i am having an anxiety attack, or after i have a seizure.
I know that many people train their own service dogs, and was wondering if i could do the same. Where do you have to go for training? Well i live in Ohio, and i’ve read that you can not have a “owner trained” service dog in OH…is this true???
I wouldn’t mind taking her to see a professional trainer, but don’t know of any registered service dog organization in my area.
I also read that emotional support animals are not allowed inside public areas, whether they are trained or not. Is this true???

If anybody could give me more info on this subject i would greatly appreciate it!

emotional support dogs are NOT the same thing as service dogs.

A service dog has to be trained to perform a task or function that assists with your disability. Emotional Support animals are not trained to perform any task or function.

Start calling local dog trainers in your area and see if any of them have experience with training service dogs, or if they can reccommend a trainer.

I have a serious question about the APBT owners here?

Question by tony: I have a serious question about the APBT owners here?
Why did you decide to buy or adopt your dog? (or however you may have come to live with your apbt)

I have been around the breed for a long time and have read more studies and researched the “psychology” of the breed more than i really should have it just kind of became an addiction.

If you dont fight your dog(s), and your not an avid show-goer or a weight pull team, what brought you to the conclusion that you should own a dog that has been bred for 200 years to be a fierce animal aggressive dog?

This is a serious question im not out to start a hate thread or anything. I just simply find it stimulating to hear the responses.

I do not fight my dogs although my main interest are the game bred lines because i find them to be more loyal and trustworthy with people. They are not to ever be trusted around other dogs without a watchful eye though. I own one of the “bully” style APBT/AST’s as well and a pure bred AST.

I hoghunt/wp with my dogs, none of that rodeo clown BS.
And if you just bought the dog to buy the dog, have you since regretted it because you found it hard to have a multi animal household?

And if your a supporter of the anti-animal aggressive lines of the breed….why? You realize that is dilution of the breed right?

Why not just get a dog without the built in animal aggression?

These are all just questions, im not trying to throw my thoughts at you as if im trying to tell you how to run your show or anything im just curious.

Just a comment about the “bred for 200 years to be a fierce animal aggressive dog” … as you probably know after researching so much, many Pit Bulls can leave peacefully with other dogs. Thousands of years of Mother Nature’s work can often outweigh the efforts of a two hundred years of stupid humans.
