How do I certify a therapy service dog for my apartment complex?

Question by Annalee: How do I certify a therapy service dog for my apartment complex?
I live in an apartment complex with a “no dogs” policy in Wilsonville, Oregon. I need to get a dog as a therapy dog, and am very confused about how to go about getting a certificate or something that says I am allowed this dog. Are there certain guidelines the dog needs to meet? Do I need a doctors note or certification for the animal? There are a lot of conflicting sources online, and I would like a straight answer from someone who has gone through this before. Thank you!

Q&A: My Dog won’t stop barking and I am going to loose my apartment…?

Question by Kate: My Dog won’t stop barking and I am going to loose my apartment…?
I just got a new job, so my dog is home alone more and my neighbors have been telling me that he is barking the entire time I am gone. I can’t quit my job and I love my dog! He never used to do this! I’ve moved his crate away from the door, so that he won’t be as distracted by noises from other people. I shut the front door and waited quietly in the kitchen and he started barking in about two minutes. I don’t want to use a shock collar, but I do NOT have much time to fix this problem.

I’ve been looking into it on the web and it sounds like he has “seperation anxiety”. I would rather use a shock collar than buy him doggy anti-depressants…How can I fix this?
I should mention, I’ve had him almost two years and this has not been a problem before. I have also worked longer hours than this in the past.

Take him for a good long run before you leave for work. If you tire him out he will sleep instead of bark. So get on your bike, or strap on the roller blades and wear that dog out.

I need a very friendly dog preferably under 15 lbs full grown, no larger than 25 lbs! That is good with children and other dogs! I have an 8 lb Papillon, i want a friend for him! But also a dog that would be compatible with our lifestyle! We live in an apartment have a 2 year old daughter and an 8lb male dog! Please don’t say “Check out your local animal shelter.” I would just like specific dogs breeds that are good with young children and other small dogs! Either by knowledge or experience! barking, sometimes at 2 am and it drives me crazy. I don’t want to confront the neighbor cause I can’t stand them (they are noisy), and I know telling the landlord is hopeless cause he won’t do anything (very sure). What do I do?
Also, calling the police is also useless cause there’s nothing much they can do.

It depends on where you live. There is an ordinance in Ohio about “barking dogs”. If you do call the police let them know you know there is an ordinance on barking dogs and you want something done about it. Good luck on your situation.
