Vermont Tourism Kicks Off Seventh Annual Apples to iPods Contest at 16 Apple Orchards

Vermont Tourism Kicks Off Seventh Annual Apples to iPods Contest at 16 Apple Orchards

Tune in & get picking at ApplestoIpods.com

(PRWEB) September 06, 2013

Vermont’s pick-your-own orchards will offer a chance to win an iPod during the Apples to iPods promotion that kicks off this Sunday, September 8.

In this technology-meets-agriculture contest, one specially marked wooden apple is hidden in an apple tree at 16 Vermont pick-your-own apple orchards. The lucky apple picker who finds a wooden apple wins an Apple iPod, iPod Shuffle or iPad.

This good-natured promotion of Vermont’s working landscape is in partnership with Woodchuck® Hard Cider, Small Dog Electronics, Vermont Tree Fruit Growers Association and the Vermont Agency of Agriculture. The Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing first launched this promotion in 2007 with hopes of growing participation at Vermont pick-your-own orchards. Since the launch, participation has been incredibly ‘fruitful’ across Vermont.

“Visiting Vermont’s apple orchards is a family tradition and in true Vermont fashion, the Apples to iPods contest makes this fall event even more fun,” Megan Smith, Commissioner of Tourism and Marketing said. “Apple picking is the perfect way to experience Vermont’s gorgeous autumn landscape and participate in a festive and tasty activity.”

For a third year, the Vermont Department of Tourism is also helping the Vermont Foodbank promote Pick for Your Neighbor, where visitors to participating orchards can pick and purchase extra apples to donate to the Foodbank. Last year, Pick for Your Neighbor made nearly 12,000 apples available to Vermonters in need.

“Pick for Your neighbor is a win for all involved,” Michelle Wallace, Program Director at the Vermont Foodbank said. “Orchards see an economic benefit from increased sales, the Foodbank has access to fresh, local apples for distribution, and participants experience a great Vermont tradition while helping their neighbors in need.”

Vermont’s nearly 4,000 acres of commercial apple orchards produce leading apple varieties: McIntosh, Cortland, Red Delicious and Empire. In 1999, the Vermont legislature designated the apple as the state fruit, and the apple pie as the state pie. For a list of participating orchards, please visit http://www.applestoipods.com and plan your trip at http://www.vermontvacation.com.

5th Annual Push to Walk Golf Outing Featuring The Dennis Walters Golf Show

5th Annual Push to Walk Golf Outing Featuring The Dennis Walters Golf Show

www.denniswalters.com

Riverdale, NJ (PRWEB) September 18, 2012

On Monday, September 24, 2012 Push to Walk will host its 5th Annual Charity Golf Outing honoring Dr. Wise Young at Wild Turkey, Crystal Springs Golf Resort, 1 Wild Turkey Way, Hamburg, NJ. This year Push to Walk celebrates its 5th anniversary and the first ever Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month in the State of New Jersey. To thank supporters for their continued generosity Push to Walk is featuring the Dennis Walters Golf Show at 11:30 AM at the David Leadbetter Academy prior to shotgun start. The show welcomes all audiences, is free and open to the public.

Dennis Walters travels around the country with his one hour combination show of golf and life lessons. Dennis’ dream was to become a professional golfer, but in 1974 had an accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. After his accident he found there were a lot of things he could not do, but he made sure golf would not be one of them. The show includes background explanation, tips, tricks, and his best friend Super Dog, Bucky! Dennis has remained active in the golf community and is one of eleven honorary lifetime members of The PGA of America and in 2008 was presented with The Distinguished Service Award by them.

“Dennis Walters is the perfect match for our outing. After giving up on golf for years when he sustained a spinal cord injury, he decided to use his personal experience to inspire and motivate others to never give up and realize their full potential. We are ecstatic to have Dennis at this year’s event and hope nobody misses what is sure to be a memorable show,” said Cynthia Templeton, President of Push to Walk.

Push to Walk is able to cover only about 75% of its operating costs through client fees, and relies on fundraising events to help make up the difference. “Our annual charity golf outing is our largest and most important event, raising us the funds to help cover operating costs, purchase new equipment, and create scholarship opportunities for clients in need,” explains Cynthia.

Donations can be made and dinner tickets purchased on the Push to Walk website: http://www.pushtowalknj.org.

The Dennis Walters Golf Show

Riverdale, NJ (PRWEB) September 27, 2012

On Monday, September 24, 2012 Push to Walk hosted its 5th Annual Charity Golf Outing at Wild Turkey, Crystal Springs Golf Resort, 1 Hamburg Way, Hamburg, NJ. The outing included entertainment, golf, food, raffles, auctions and prizes.

The outing began with check in for about 120 golfers, the biggest turnout in the outings’ 5 years! Golfers and guests of the resort were invited to enjoy The Dennis Walters Golf Show. Dennis, his co-host Super Dog Bucky, and his assistant Asher were delightfully entertaining. The one hour show featured tons of tips, tricks, jokes and an inspiring message that you are never too old to have a dream. After the show Dennis stayed to do a meet and greet for the Push to Walk group before tee off time. All the golfers went out in good spirits and played their round on a gorgeous fall day.

Around 6PM foursomes trickled into the Rotunda for cocktails and dinner. Darren Templeton, son of Push to Walk founders, was the MC for the evening and did a phenomenal job of reminding the audience of the cause. Darren started off with introducing a video made by the Honorary Chairperson of the event, Dr. Wise Young. Dr. Young is the Founding Director of the W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience and Richard H. Shindell Chair in Neuroscience. He is at the forefront of bringing clinical trials currently underway in China to the U.S. in the near future. Although Dr. Young could not be present at the event, he displayed his great support of Push to Walk in his video.

The evening also included a presentation of Scholarship Certificates to clients who participated with Team Push to Walk during the NJ Marathon. Excitement continued throughout the night, a 50/50 winner was drawn followed by the winner donating his winnings back to Push to Walk. Dinner came to a close with the announcement of 24 golfer prizes including recognition of a hole-in-one shot that was made during play, something so many golfers wish for!

“We could not have asked for the day to have gone any better” said Cynthia Templeton, President of Push to Walk. “It was hands down our best outing yet and are already thinking about ways to top it next year. As every event passes I become more amazed at the generosity of our supporters!”

Push to Walk is able to cover only about 75% of its operating costs through client fees, and relies on fundraising events to help make up the difference. “Our annual charity golf outing is our largest and most valuable event, raising us the funds to help cover operating costs, purchase new equipment, and create scholarship opportunities for clients in need,” explains Cynthia.

Donation opportunities are available on the Push to Walk website: http://www.pushtowalknj.org.
