Question by Hazel86: What do you think about these ingredients in this dog food?
Hi. Yesterday I posted a question about the Wysong Epigen formula and how they claim to be so great since their food is “starch free” rather than your typical grain free foods. Here are the ingredients of the Epigen, and I want to know what is bad and/or really good in there. As for the chicken giblets, they say that is only the heart, liver, and gizzard of the chicken (the whole chicken minus the head, feathers, and feet – saying in the wild, that’s what the animal would consume anyway) And here’s their explanation on the vegetable proteins in the food:

“Vegetable Protein (consisting of one or more of the following: Potato Protein, Rice Protein, Corn Protein, Wheat Protein): By special processing, the starches are removed. The remaining proteins and other important nutrient elements are then incorporated into Epigen™. The long protein chains help shape and bind the kibbles so that starches do not have to be used.”

Ingredients of Wysong Epigen:

Organic Chicken, Chicken Meal, Chicken Giblets, Vegetable Protein (consisting of one or more of the following: Potato Protein, Rice Protein, Corn Protein, Wheat Protein), Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols as a source of Vitamin E), Eggs, Yogurt, Flax Seed, Apple, Beet Pulp, Plums, Inulin, Dried Wheat Grass Powder, Dried Barley Grass Powder, Krill Oil, Dried Kelp, Taurine, Oregano Extract, Sage Extract, Rosemary Extract, Probiotic Microorganisms (Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus lactis), Ascorbic Acid, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Manganese Proteinate, Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Copper Proteinate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement.* (For an explanation of Epigen’s™ ingredients see below.)

Logical opinions on the overall quality of ingredients in this food are appreciated, thanks.
shelter puppies rule. I see your points here – thanks. I’m curious to know what kind of food do you feed your dogs? (i assume its rather good).
also, if you wouldn’t mind reading the summary of their probiotics and stuff here: http://www.wysongepigen.net/ingredients.php

here they basically sum up the importance of their ingredients. Sorry I have so many questions about this food, but I find it to be interesting and trying to see in between the lines here, because I like grain free, and just want to see if they actually ARE better.
