Photography Tour to East Greenland Includes Icebergs, Fjords and a Unique Inuit Homestay

Evansville, IN (PRWEB) May 16, 2010

This 7 day tour offers a rare opportunity to experience and photograph the fascinating lifestyle of East Greenland’s Ammassalik Inuits, who are isolated from the rest of the country by pack ice 8 months of the year. Staying 2 nights with an Inuit family in the tiny village of Tinitequilaaq, participants will discover how the tide, ice and weather influence daily life in this harsh arctic environment. An English speaking Inuit guide will accompany the group and organize opportunities to join villagers engaged in routine activities and century old traditions. Participants may choose to spend the day at sea with fishermen or seal hunters; accompany women as they fetch water from melting icebergs, cook, or clean fish; play with children along the peninsula where icebergs float past; or trek over billion year old moraine on striated mountains. The group will travel to and from Tinitequilaaq village by private boat charter and helicopter.

Participants will also visit 2 larger Inuit communities, Kulusuk and Tasiilaq, with hotel stays. Special boat trips have been arranged to photograph fjords, calving glaciers, giant icebergs and humpbacks at sea, plus land excursions to visit Inuit peat home ruins and a rusty military base on deserted banks. The group will hike through a tundra valley blooming in September with arctic flowers, and walk to a nearby village to see a kayak demonstration, meet sledge dogs, and watch tupilak carvers if they are not out hunting.

This all-inclusive journey includes an overnight stay in Reykjavik, Iceland plus a private day tour of the capital city and Viking related sites beyond. Organized by Unique Photo Tours, this trip is open to men and women at all levels of photography. Group size limited to 8. Two photographers provide feedback both in the field and during informal conversations throughout the tour, September 6-12, 2010. Cost is $ 3,850 and includes round trip airfare from Reykjavik, Iceland to Kulusuk, Greenland.

About Unique Photo Tours

Launched in 2005, Unique Photo Tours was created to offer exquisite photographic opportunities, distinctive itineraries and unforgettable journeys. The husband and wife owners are photographers who lead small groups to international destinations such as Namibia, Botswana, Cambodia, New Zealand, Iceland, Panama, Yucatan, and Bhutan. Groups are kept small to minimalize impact on the local culture, and to provide an atmosphere conducive for photography discussions or instruction. This spring, they started a blog to share photographs, stories, and tips on photography.
